Coopers Rock State Forest sits 13 mi (21 km) east of Morgantown and 8 mi (13 km) west of Bruceton Mills on 12,713 acres of land which is divided by Interstate 68. The two sides serve different purposes: the north used by WVU for research and training and the south side for public recreation. Enjoy hiking through the rocky trails, picnicking, fishing and visiting the historic sites found at the park.

Home to the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners, Marilla Park also contains a number of recreational facilities. A swimming pool, sports courts, playground equipment are some of this park's features. The BOPARC office can be rented out for programs and classes.

Mylan Park is used for a variety of purposes and has more than 320 acres of land containing athletic fields, trails, picnic areas and playground equipment. It is located across the river from Morgantown and hosts some of the events from the annual Mountaineer Balloon Festival.

Found on the shores of the Monongahela River in Morgantown, Riverfront Park offers a number of facilities, including a boat ramp, picnic areas, an amphitheater and a restored train depot. It is also hosts the annual Mason-Dixon Festival in September, which features the arrival of the Gateway Clipper from Pittsburgh which docks at the park for the celebrations.

Miles of trails, an outdoor amphitheater and several privative picnic spots are found at Core Arboretum, an old-growth forest maintained by West Virginia University. Enjoy a day of nature watching, as there are plenty of birds, plants and trees to study in the 91-acre area.

Westover Park
Located on the west side of the river, Westover Park provides a range of recreational services for visitors. Sports fields, a fishing pond and picnic areas are available, and each August the park hosts the Monongalia County Fair.
