More than 3,000 examples of locally produced glass pieces from the historic Morgantown, Seneca and Gentile glass factories are displayed at the Morgantown Glass Museum. Open to visitors by appointment, the Comer Museum contains displays concerning the history of coal, natural gas and oil industries. Artifacts, pictures, maps, and scale and life-sized models of equipment are found in the museum, which is housed in the Mineral Resources Building on the WVU Evansdale campus. Resembling a pharmacy from the late 1800s, the Cook-Hayman Pharmacy Museum has been collecting items since the '60s. Visitors can see antique items used more than 100 years ago, such as furnishings, containers and related paraphernalia, including apothecary jars, mills, bottles, scales and much more. John Henry Museum The John Henry Museum contains a number of exhibits on John Henry, a folk hero from the region's early days. Organized in Morgantown, the Riverfront Museums Inc. was established as a way to preserve the history of Monongalia County. Based inside the Seneca Center, a historic glass factory, the museum takes visitors through the history of Morgantown with displays of glass and crystal created during the industry's heyday during the late 1800s to late 1900s, when more than 30 glass factories resided in the area.
